A Cocktail City
While Bangkok might be known for inexpensive lagers and vodka buckets, the Thai capital has also earned a superb reputation for being one of the best cocktail cities in Asia. Today, there are plenty of sky bars in Bangkok helmed by award-winning mixologists and bartenders who have a passion for the craft of cocktails. And there is no doubt that much of the city’s bar culture emerged from restaurants and bars within luxury hotels.
The craft cocktail is an American invention which fluctuated in popularity following the prohibition era. It has definitely altered the culinary landscape. Inspired by the 1920s, Hotel Muse Bangkok isn’t just another boutique hotel in another city. Set up in the sophisticated neighbourhood of Chidlom, the hotel has placed much effort in reviving the cocktail scene of the prohibition era by creating the iconic sky bar in Bangkok: The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar.
Peaked with a golden dome against the sky, Hotel Muse Bangkok houses The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar which offers well-made drinks and an inviting atmosphere. Boasting spectacular skyline views, The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar is a multi-level bar that takes up the 24th and 25th floor of Hotel Muse Bangkok. Drawing inspirations from the hidden bars from the yesteryears of America, The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar is a cosy sky bar in Bangkok that can’t be found anywhere else. For those who enjoy high-quality Cuban cigars will be delighted to know that there are three private rooms if you would like to indulge in a puff and a sip in exclusivity.
The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar showcases all manner of cocktails, from sweet and refreshing to bitter and captivating. To enhance the atmosphere of the prohibition era back in the 1920s, we present a collection of five novel cocktails named The Speakeasy Sips. Inspired by Gladys Louise Smith, who is widely known for her role as Mary Pickford, The Girl with the Curls are a swirl of Bulleit Bourbon, sweet maraschino liqueur infused with calming chamomile tea, pineapple honey shrub, homemade grenadine and a splash of lemon. Six Revive is a tongue-in-cheek take on the Corpse Reviver, which is dedicated to Harry Craddock. The elixir promises to revive you with a mix of gin, vermouth, Cointreau-infused coffee beans and aromatics of rose and citrus.
In honouring the American gangster and businessman Al Capone, who goes by the nickname Scarface, the namesake cocktail boasts a palatable sweetness from honey and saffron-infused dry vermouth, as well as a rough finish from the Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserved and Fernet Branca. A toast to Fitzgerald, the White Flapper is a refreshing cocktail with Don Julio Blanco tequila, vermouth, white wine, a dash of orange bitters and soda. Last but not least, Papa Earnest is a twist of Ernest Hemingway’s favourite daiquiri without sugar and double rum. Zacapa Rum aged 23 years, port wine, fresh tomato juice and strawberry syrup lends this classic cocktail a fresh perspective.
The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar also emphasizes on unique gin creations. With a dedicated Gin Library, this sky bar in Bangkok showcases a collection of 70 different premium gins from around the globe.
